Show #1

This is our first show. We're debating whether or not to take it to the audio level, but for now, I hope you enjoyed our discussion. Thanks for reading, and please comment at the end. Please keep those questions coming too, we really enjoyed the ones we got and can't wait for more.

Here is show #1:

kboenitz
:
since it is football season, the only logical place would be to start right there
Original Muggins: sounds perfect
kboenitz: we'll go division by division, starting with the AFC east
kboenitz: whats up with the bills?
Original Muggins: The bills are the new AFC east kings
Original Muggins: simple as that
kboenitz: of course
kboenitz: so whos in second?
Original Muggins: it doesn't matter, they are all worthless
Original Muggins: that's right, i said the patriots are worthless
kboenitz: haha ok, i'll give you that
Original Muggins: and not just because they lost brady
kboenitz: so you think the only playoff team coming from the east is the bills?
Original Muggins: yes sir
kboenitz: so what else about the patriots?
kboenitz: what changed?
Original Muggins: their defense hasn't been able to stop anyone when it mattered since the end of last year
Original Muggins: and they are old
kboenitz: you dont think theyll rebound from the thrashing they got from miami?
Original Muggins: they were struggling against the chiefs even BEFORE brady went down
Original Muggins: the chiefs!
Original Muggins: so no
kboenitz: haha and we'll get to how bad the chiefs are in a moment
Original Muggins: okay what's your take
kboenitz: i like the bills
kboenitz: I'm not sure what it is, but they're squeaked out wins are winning me over
kboenitz: their*
Original Muggins: yeah, they have what it takes
kboenitz: they could easily be 1-2 though
Original Muggins: but they aren't
kboenitz: its true
Original Muggins: because they have a tough mentality
Original Muggins: goes a long way
Original Muggins: okay what do you think about the AFC north?
kboenitz: well baltimore has only played 2 games
Original Muggins: indeed
kboenitz: and they look decent, but i still like pittsburgh, if they can stay healthy
Original Muggins: I agree
kboenitz: which isn't a given
Original Muggins: completely agree
Original Muggins: kind of a boring division really, let's move on
kboenitz: indeed
Original Muggins: afc south?
kboenitz: well it's really what i've been saying for 3 years
kboenitz: vince young was holding that team back
kboenitz: i hate to say it, coming from UT
kboenitz: but its true
Original Muggins: holding them back from what? they made the playoffs?
kboenitz: but they never had a shot at going anywhere
Original Muggins: i happen to agree with you
kboenitz: they couldnt compete with the AFC elite
kboenitz: too many turnovers
Original Muggins: so you think kerry collins is the missing piece?
kboenitz: sort of
kboenitz: he plays a very eli manning type role
kboenitz: as long as he plays consistent, and doesnt make mistakes, his team, mainly his defense, can win
Original Muggins: okay how far does that winning take them?
kboenitz: well the balance of power has clearly shifted in the AFC
kboenitz: i say at least to an AFC title game
Original Muggins: I agree
Original Muggins: in fact
Original Muggins: the Titans are the best team in the AFC.
kboenitz: i'll disagree with you there
Original Muggins: well here is why i say that
Original Muggins: they don't have the most talent
Original Muggins: but the intensity that the defense played with against the texans is unlike any defensive intensity i have seen since the better years of the ravens
Original Muggins: every single hit was a huge hit
kboenitz: it was quite a showing
Original Muggins: they didn't leave any doubt
Original Muggins: and until they lose that intensity, i'd like to see who can match them in the afc
Original Muggins: and to boot they have a power running game
kboenitz: well i think a real good offense, could beat a real good defense, and there are some real good offenses in the afc
Original Muggins: okay who do you take
kboenitz: i say as LT keeps getting healthy, the chargers come up as the AFC contender
Original Muggins: alright, so let's move on to the AFC west
kboenitz: alright
Original Muggins: how about the broncos?
kboenitz: i don't know
kboenitz: if it werent for 2 very favorable penalty calls theyre 1-2
Original Muggins: true
kboenitz: and they have no defense
kboenitz: none
Original Muggins: also true
Original Muggins: you know who they remind me of?
kboenitz: who?
Original Muggins: those raiders that got pounded by the bucs in the super bowl a few years back
Original Muggins: great team, but you have got to play defense
kboenitz: i do remember that
kboenitz: ya, because you have to have something to fall back on if the offense isnt going
Original Muggins: yes, and you have to frustrate the other team into making mistakes
kboenitz: so quick hit, gimme 6 playoff teams from the afc
Original Muggins: okay
Original Muggins: bills, steelers, chargers, titans for divisions
Original Muggins: broncos and colts for wild card
Original Muggins: and you?
kboenitz: i'm the same except i'm giving that last wild card spot to the jags
kboenitz: who will continue to get better as their o-line comes back
Original Muggins: yeah it's going to be a fight
kboenitz: ok to the NFC
Original Muggins: but until garrard puts in a good game, i gotta take the colts
Original Muggins: alright
kboenitz: fair enough
kboenitz: the nfc east
kboenitz: we're gonna talk about it a lot
Original Muggins: head and shoulders above everybody else
kboenitz: and i think we agree that 3 teams are going to the playoffs from that division
Original Muggins: not necessarily, but most likely
Original Muggins: they all have to play each other
kboenitz: true
Original Muggins: i don't think the giants make the playoffs
kboenitz: i might agree with you on that
Original Muggins: their magic has ended
kboenitz: but I think it'll be close
kboenitz: well they keep winning
Original Muggins: yeah but look at their schedule
kboenitz: it's tough
kboenitz: they get 6 easy ones, then they get tough
kboenitz: but the thing about the giants is that theyre capable of beating anyone
Original Muggins: yes, they have proven that
kboenitz: so they could pull a few of those out, and i think they'll only need to go 4-6 in their last 10 th make the playoffs
Original Muggins: perhaps
kboenitz: ok movin on
Original Muggins: well i think we can rule out the redskins
kboenitz: ya, i think so, even if they are good, theyre in the wrong division
Original Muggins: true
Original Muggins: okay nfc north?
kboenitz: i guess green bay
kboenitz: and i know you like rodgers
Original Muggins: I go with green bay too, but the vikings are VERY dangerous
kboenitz: but i don't think he can play against a really good team
Original Muggins: and underrated
Original Muggins: i guess he is yet to prove that
kboenitz: the vikings need to get their qb figured out
Original Muggins: i think they are in the same boat as the titans
Original Muggins: ironically, they play each other this week
kboenitz: so you think gus frerotte can manage the team?
Original Muggins: yes i do
Original Muggins: he can convert third downs
Original Muggins: that's all you need to do with AP in the lineup
kboenitz: true, assuming he stays healthy
Original Muggins: but more importantly, they can stop the run
Original Muggins: and they put pressure on the qb
Original Muggins: that spells trouble for most nfl teams these days
kboenitz: it's true
kboenitz: moving on to the south
kboenitz: another boring division
kboenitz: but i know you like the panthers
Original Muggins: completely disagree.
Original Muggins: this could be the most highly contested division in the league
kboenitz: more than the east?
Original Muggins: top to bottom yes
Original Muggins: any team can give any other team a game
kboenitz: i think thats cuz theyre all mediocre
Original Muggins: that's one way to see it
Original Muggins: who is your pick
kboenitz: id like to go with the panthers, but something tells me to pick the bucs
kboenitz: so ill do that
Original Muggins: no love for the saints or falcons?
kboenitz: afraid not, the falcons are too inexperienced
kboenitz: and the saints are just so up and down
kboenitz: what about you?
Original Muggins: yeah, no defense
Original Muggins: i agree, it's panthers over bucs in a close race
kboenitz: alright, to the dumpster of the nfc
Original Muggins: do we have to?
kboenitz: yes we do
kboenitz: and ill tell you why
Original Muggins: cardinals
kboenitz: they have potential
Original Muggins: why?
kboenitz: all teams have shown the ability to win
Original Muggins: not the rams
kboenitz: not the rams
kboenitz: my fault
kboenitz: not the rams
Original Muggins: they have shown the ability to win against each other
Original Muggins: because they are all that bad
kboenitz: but the seahawks have some receivers coming back
kboenitz: the cardinals are revived by warner
kboenitz: and jt o'sullivan turned out to be not so bad, and combined with gore, thats pretty crazy
Original Muggins: okay so who wins, and with what record?
kboenitz: the seahawks at 8-8 or 9-7
Original Muggins: okay i'll take the cardinals still, the seahawks problems go beyond the wr situation
Original Muggins: but 8-8 or 9-7 sounds about right
kboenitz: no, deion branch
kboenitz: he'll revive his team, and my fantasy team
Original Muggins: haha
kboenitz: so your 6 from the NFC are?
Original Muggins: Cowboys, packers, panthers, cardinals
Original Muggins: divisions
Original Muggins: and eagles and vikes take the wildcards
Original Muggins: you?
kboenitz: boys, pack, bucs, seahawks
kboenitz: giants and eagles
Original Muggins: okay cool
kboenitz: actually
kboenitz: i think the giants and skins should have a play in game
kboenitz: so all 4 from the east can go
Original Muggins: haha that'll be the day
kboenitz: true
kboenitz: ok any other NFL news you wanna hit real quick?
Original Muggins: yes, i want to talk about this general trend of qb's being replaced
kboenitz: i don't like it
kboenitz: i say consistency is key
Original Muggins: I think in general, it is not usually the fault of the QB that a team is doin terrible
kboenitz: i agree
Original Muggins: it usually is the offensive line
Original Muggins: or something else
kboenitz: in some cases yes
Original Muggins: okay but having said that
Original Muggins: i think when you haven't come close to winning a game, switching out the leadership can bring a fresh wave of excitement to the team, and to the fans, and to the psychology of hte team
Original Muggins: so in some cases it works
Original Muggins: i.e. titans, vikings
kboenitz: right but...
kboenitz: in most cases the quarterback is the face of the franchise, do you wanna demoralize your face?
Original Muggins: it's regrettable, but sometimes you have to
kboenitz: and it works sometimes
Original Muggins: i don't think the browns should yet
kboenitz: look at romo and the cowboys
Original Muggins: exactly
kboenitz: remember drew bledsoe?
Original Muggins: and brady and the pats
kboenitz: drew bledsoe is the weakest link
Original Muggins: all these were good teams that just needed a change
kboenitz: true
Original Muggins: so i like it, but not for bad teams that blame it on the qb
kboenitz: true
Original Muggins: i.e. texans, browns, rams
kboenitz: and brady quinn is not gonna revive your team
kboenitz: no offense to dj snakk
Original Muggins: nope, neither is trent green
kboenitz: nope
Original Muggins: okay quick hit
Original Muggins: who's the mvp?
kboenitz: if the eagles can keep it up, and go deep, maybe mcnabb... i don't know why, but i really like what he's doing
kboenitz: you?
Original Muggins: mcnabb.
Original Muggins: baseball time?
kboenitz: lets do it
Original Muggins: go right ahead
kboenitz: alrighty, first of all, i'd like to start off as a homer and say that i think its terrible how bad the astros got screwed
Original Muggins: go ahead and vent
kboenitz: forcing your team to play a "home" game right next door to the "away" teams city, is outrageous, especially when your family is at home in a hurricane
kboenitz: and it showed in their performance
Original Muggins: okay
kboenitz: and while the astros arent totally out, its almost impossible at this point
Original Muggins: and you blame that on the hurricane?
kboenitz: i blame it on MLB for not coming up with a better solution
Original Muggins: what would be your solution?
kboenitz: i guess the only thing would be to postpone the series
Original Muggins: and extend the whole season?
kboenitz: or play at texas stadium
kboenitz: the crowd in milwaukee supporting the cubs was outrageous
kboenitz: there should have been some other solution
Original Muggins: don't you think they lost because they couldn't hit the ball?
kboenitz: i think they had to have been a little distracted
Original Muggins: here is my take, living in houston
Original Muggins: i heard fans whine and complain about this for a week following their two losses in Milwaukee
Original Muggins: and then, when they kept on losing, game after game, the whining slowed down and eventually stopped
Original Muggins: because they realized that lance berkman and the rest of the squad just weren't playing good baseball
Original Muggins: and that a five or six game losing streak is excessive for a good team fighting to make the playoffs
kboenitz: well i agree
kboenitz: but
kboenitz: i also think the turn around between how they were playing before the hurricane, and how they were playing after the hurricane indicates that something went wrong other than stricltly baseball playing
Original Muggins: i think the situation definitely hurt the astros
Original Muggins: but it was the best they could do given the circumstances, and the astros responded very very badly
kboenitz: well i guess we cant really fix it now, just have to accept it
Original Muggins: yes
Original Muggins: but there are things to fix
kboenitz: and maybe the astros can try playing good in the first half of the year for ones
Original Muggins: haha exactly
kboenitz: once
kboenitz: anyhoo
kboenitz: lets get josiahs world series prediction
Original Muggins: okay
kboenitz: do you know whos going to the playoffs?
Original Muggins: not exactly
Original Muggins: let's go with the red sox
kboenitz: that's probably the safe bet
Original Muggins: and the... phillies
kboenitz: hey, i like the phillies
kboenitz: theyre hot right now
Original Muggins: who are your picks?
kboenitz: sox and phillies...
Original Muggins: awesome
kboenitz: we win!
kboenitz: ok, mail time!
Original Muggins: okay get us started
kboenitz: we got 2 very similar emails from Tony R. and Travis P. discussing the Texas Longhorns getting snubbed, Tony thinks that ESPN doesn't do much to acknowledge this top 10 team and national title contender, and Travis wants our opinions on why we don't get better recruits
Original Muggins: okay travis first- my answer is simple
Original Muggins: we don't offer them starting positions
Original Muggins: i would disagree that we get bad recruits
kboenitz: i dont think he's saying we get bad recruits
Original Muggins: but the ones that we lost (AP, perriloux, etc...) all were going to be backups on our team
kboenitz: we just dont get the right amount of 5-star recruits that we should
Original Muggins: what do you think?
kboenitz: i just think its cuz we're not sexy enough
kboenitz: thats putting it very bluntly
Original Muggins: what do you mean?
Original Muggins: you agree with travis? we are too boring and traditional?
kboenitz: we don't have that coach that's won multiple championships, or coached in the NFL and is in the national spotlight
kboenitz: and we arent located in beautiful and sunny southern california
Original Muggins: which brings us to tony's question
kboenitz: i think we are too boring
Original Muggins: why doesn't espn look at us?
kboenitz: well first of all, right now we're just demolishing teams by 40
kboenitz: thats not really primetime tv
Original Muggins: haha agreed
Original Muggins: do you see much OU at this point?
kboenitz: later in the year we will get the national coverage
kboenitz: no, you really dont
Original Muggins: exactly
Original Muggins: when we start playing OU, Missouri, Kansas, Tech, we'll get spotlight
kboenitz: exactly
kboenitz: my advice to mack would be to get a big game in there preseason
Original Muggins: as for the SEC teams, they have a top ten battle every week
kboenitz: haha true
kboenitz: and look how much press OSU and USC got when they played
kboenitz: it was non-stop
kboenitz: all week
Original Muggins: exactly
Original Muggins: if we win out to OU weekend, that's what we will see
kboenitz: its true
kboenitz: ok next mail
Original Muggins: alright John Litzler addressed something which I'm glad he did because it was going to be my rant
kboenitz: haha im ready to go on this one too
kboenitz: i have it ready:
Original Muggins: he pointed out how well the cowboys are playing
kboenitz: Josiah, you are notoriously not a cowboy fan and even picked them to lose to the Packers this week. Kyle we all know how you feel about your Giants and they are still reigning Super Bowl Champs until someone says otherwise come February. But after impressive wins over Philly and the Pack is it undeniable that the Cowboys are the best team in football and its time to, "get the ring finger ready" ?
kboenitz: there it is right there
kboenitz: go ahead
Original Muggins: okay, john, all cowboys fans, the answer is:
Original Muggins: NO
Original Muggins: and here is why
Original Muggins: 1. Look at the 2008 Patriots
Original Muggins: that was a team that you could say get the ring finger ready
Original Muggins: there has never been a more dominant regular season team, including the dolphins of lore
kboenitz: well in defense of the patriots, they were one "gum on the helmet" play away from winning the super bowl
Original Muggins: but they didn't
kboenitz: true
kboenitz: go on
Original Muggins: and their fingers are naked
Original Muggins: (or two of them at least
kboenitz: naked from last year
kboenitz: haha
Original Muggins: okay #2. Look at the 2008 Cowboys
Original Muggins: they were undeniably the best team in the NFC
Original Muggins: but until Romo and the boys win a playoff game, there is absolutely NO reason why Cowboys fans should have the arrogance of a team that thinks they have just about won the super bowl already
kboenitz: i completely agree
Original Muggins: i'm done
kboenitz: not only the 08 cowboys, but the 07 cowboys as well
Original Muggins: exactly
kboenitz: they were set to do it too
kboenitz: the point is, that talent doesnt win the super bowl
Original Muggins: yes
kboenitz: i think the cowboys have been the most talented team for 2 and a half years
Original Muggins: the cowboys are the most talented team in football
kboenitz: but NO playoff wins
Original Muggins: agree.
kboenitz: so until they get it together and can play consistently like a team, they have no rings in their future
kboenitz: and i would stop putting so many distractions on your team
Original Muggins: there is something else i want to talk about with the cowboys, but it can wait for next week
kboenitz: i think its stupid
kboenitz: sounds good
kboenitz: next mail comes from jack b
kboenitz: he wants to know what we think about the MWC
kboenitz: can a team from that conference play in a BCS bowl
kboenitz: ?
Original Muggins: well it depends
Original Muggins: it comes down to TCU, BYU, and Utah
Original Muggins: if TCU goes undefeated, yes, because they beat OU
kboenitz: which i dont think happens
Original Muggins: if BYU or Utah goes undefeated, it's possible, but only if there aren't more deserving teams in the BIg 12 and SEC
kboenitz: i think you let one team go, if they go undefeated in conference
Original Muggins: but to answer the question, it should not be a GIVEN that they go if they win out
Original Muggins: no matter what kyle?
kboenitz: those 3 have to play each other, and if one can come out as the best team in the conference, then they deserve a shot
Original Muggins: fair enough
kboenitz: why not?
Original Muggins: beacause of hawaii
kboenitz: what about boise st?
Original Muggins: it's a very good point
Original Muggins: i'll give you that one
kboenitz: theres one every year
kboenitz: i think they should get their shot
Original Muggins: okay you're right
Original Muggins: but not national championship game
Original Muggins: no matter what
kboenitz: oh heck no
kboenitz: no way
Original Muggins: speaking of college football...quick picks?
kboenitz: but they should rename the national championship game SEC vs. the world
Original Muggins: georgia/Bama?
kboenitz: bama
kboenitz: i dont think georgias been playin so well lately
kboenitz: you?
Original Muggins: gotta go with my preseason pick the dawgs, adversity breeds team character
kboenitz: and you gotta love moreno
Original Muggins: penn state/illinois?
kboenitz: he's pretty sexy
kboenitz: joe pa and his nittany lions!
kboenitz: you?
Original Muggins: agreed.
Original Muggins: OU/TCU?
kboenitz: OU is too good, i hope TCU gives them a game though
Original Muggins: won't happen
kboenitz: nah, but it'll be a fun weekend of college football
Original Muggins: now the big question... Big 12 vs. SEC
kboenitz: i think the SEC is far and above, but i like that teams formerly thought of as garbage like mizzou and kansas have risen to make this conference legit
Original Muggins: i agree
Original Muggins: i always here "sec, big 12, and the rest"
Original Muggins: but it should be "sec....................................................big 12.....the rest
kboenitz: i just like it that the big 12 season isnt determined by the TX/OU game
Original Muggins: the SEC is far and away the best conference, and we have no business comparing
Original Muggins: i agree, but we have maybe 5 or 6 good teams
kboenitz: theres more important games, and it makes the season much more interesting
Original Muggins: the big 12 is better than it has been in a long time
kboenitz: i like it
Original Muggins: and the quarterbacks....oh wow
kboenitz: seriously
kboenitz: we were asked if colt mccoy could be a heismann contender, and i dont see any possible way, seeing as he's what? the 4th best qb in the conference?
Original Muggins: okay how about this question
Original Muggins: yeah, he has to win some big ones before that can happen
Original Muggins: my question was this
kboenitz: k whats your question?
Original Muggins: if OU, USC, and a SEC team all go undefeated
Original Muggins: who goes to the national championship game?
Original Muggins: (or any big 12 team for that matter )
kboenitz: first of all, id like to say that that would be pretty impossible
Original Muggins: haha true, true
kboenitz: but i think the big 12 team gets the snub
Original Muggins: i'd agree
kboenitz: you won't leap frog USC
Original Muggins: no
Original Muggins: let's just hope they lose
kboenitz: and the bcs loves strength of schedule
kboenitz: so the SEC has that
kboenitz: so ya, i say OU gets left out
Original Muggins: i think that IF any team goes undefeated, it will be USC
kboenitz: true
Original Muggins: and that there is no way a team from the SEC goes undefetad
Original Muggins: too brutal
kboenitz: just cuz now the pac-10 is garbage
Original Muggins: yes
kboenitz: ok before we get to our final rant
kboenitz: i have a question for you josiah
Original Muggins: go ahead
kboenitz: youre a big fan of ice cream, right?
Original Muggins: yes
kboenitz: would you prefer ice cream that had been made from human milk, rather than cow?
Original Muggins: only if it came from my mama
Original Muggins: what about you?
kboenitz: wow, i guess we can talk about those issues later
kboenitz: but now, thats disgusting
kboenitz: no*
kboenitz: but PETA has sent a formal request to ben and jerrys to do just that
Original Muggins: my level of seriousness followed the seriousness of the question
Original Muggins: oh never mind
kboenitz: well peta takes it very seriously
Original Muggins: then i retract my joke, and instead say heck no, i would not eat that ice cream
kboenitz: haha neither would 87 percent of america either according to the poll on there
kboenitz: i thought i would share that grossness with you
Original Muggins: thank you
kboenitz: and lets hear your send off rant for the week
Original Muggins: and thank ben and jerry for not caving
kboenitz: indeed
Original Muggins: okay so I was going to go with how bad the cleveland browns suck and how nobody sees that, but that's just boring, so i'm going to go with a more...relevant topic: how overrated is tony romo?
kboenitz: oh joy
Original Muggins: The cowboys are a GREAT team. they have GREAT talent. But the sooner people realize that this is a team that thrives on RUNNING the ball and not passing the ball, the sooner this team will have a ring on their fingers. Marion Barber and Felix Jones behind that huge offensive line is just about unstoppable. But what is very stoppable is tony romo. He has great personality, and Ilike him, but he just isn't a great quarterback. He makes bad decisions, game after game, that sometimes cost his team and sometimes don't beecause of the great playmaking ability of the rest of the team. When the defensive line gets to him and forces him to make bad throws, the cowboys will lose very often. Unfortunately there aren't many D-lines that can put that pressure on him. That's why they weren't ready for the Giants in the playoffs last year, and that's why they won't be ready for what the Eagles bring them when they BEAT the cowboys in the playoffs!
Original Muggins: go ahead kyle
kboenitz: haha ok
kboenitz: i would just like to give mad props to the US Ryder Cup team. I know that this upset isn't on par with the miracle on ice or anything like that, but I thoroughly enjoyed following the Ryder Cup this year. The team, playing without Tiger Woods, drew the attention and love from a large crowd base and really strengthened patriotism through sports. I would also like to say that since Tiger and Rocco Mediate battled it out a few months back, and after the Ryder Cup, Golf has moved up right behind soccer on my "sports that I don't watch religiously, but enjoy from time to time" list.
kboenitz: and i have to ask if you cried watching your European brothers fall to the americans in the Ryder cup?
Original Muggins: as for me, I'm 22 so i don't watch golr.
Original Muggins: *golf
kboenitz: so you didn't care at all?
Original Muggins: not an iota
Original Muggins: sorry, golf players
Original Muggins: ask me again in 25 years
kboenitz: i think wii golf has strengthend my interest in real golf
Original Muggins: haha alright
Original Muggins: well it's been fun
kboenitz: indeed!
Original Muggins: i'm looking forward to comments and next wek
Original Muggins: i think we tried to cover too much
kboenitz: i think so too
Original Muggins: but we will be more focused and detailed and fun next week
Original Muggins: thank you for reading
kboenitz: thank you, have a good week
